Johnny Steele returns as our emcee for this year’s Comedy Night. A winner of the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition, Johnny has hosted the LIVE 105 morning show and KRON/BayTV’s daily talk show, and has written for some of comedy’s biggest names, including the legendary Robin Williams. Johnny continues to headline comedy venues and lead comedy workshops, bringing his signature rapid-fire, stream-of-consciousness style—and comedic brilliance—to every stage he takes.
Sue Alfieri is Marin County’s own comedy mom, serving up sharp, relatable observations with a dry edge and absolutely zero pretense. A crowd favorite from last year’s Comedy in the Park, Sue has performed at some of comedy’s most iconic venues, including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, Cobb’s Comedy Club, and the San Francisco Punch Line, as well as competing in the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition.
Larry “Bubbles” Brown has been a Bay Area comedy favorite for more than 40 years, earning national attention with multiple appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and sharing the stage with comedy greats including Rob Schneider and Dana Carvey. Known for his unmistakable deadpan delivery and hilariously self-deprecating wit, Larry is a longtime favorite at the San Francisco Punch Line, Rooster T. Feathers, and the Throckmorton Theatre.
Don Reed is the creator and host of the wildly successful Redwood Nights: Storytelling Under the Stars at Deer Park Villa in Fairfax. A celebrated comedian, actor, writer, and storyteller, Don is the author of Here’s Donnie!, his memoir about a remarkable life in show business, published by Simon & Schuster. He also spent more than 1,000 episodes warming up audiences for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, making him a true veteran of the comedy stage and screen.
Pat Townsley, your host for Comedy Night, is best known locally as the owner of San Anselmo’s Creekside Pizza & Taproom, but his colorful career in entertainment spans decades—as an event producer, radio personality, disc jockey, talent agent, and manager of Marin’s legendary New George’s nightclub. Along the way, Pat worked with many of the Bay Area’s top bands and comedians, experiences that helped lay the foundation for what would eventually become Live on the Avenue.
Paul Geller has been a local musician, teacher, and performer for over 40 years. With an endless list of Marin bands and session recordings to his credit, Paul leads off our evening with pre-show acoustic music.
Comedy in the Park is proudly produced and sponsored by Creekside Pizza & Taproom in partnership with the Town of San Anselmo Recreation Department and Live on the Avenue.
A huge thank-you to the generous sponsors whose support makes Live on the Avenue Marin County’s longest-running summer concert and street festival—and most importantly, thank YOU for encouraging our behavior. — Pat Townsley
