Creekside is again endorsing and actively promoting WARM WISHES BACKPACKS, a “Play Marin” non-profit project. Our friend and fellow local hero PAUL AUSTIN and with his band of holiday volunteers are making a difference with your help.
Get a jump on this and help our the needy. HOW? You can make the holidays a little bit warmer by donating fully stocked backpacks for unhoused residents in Sausalito and San Rafael.
It’s a little bit of heavy lifting on your part, but lifting a soul is priceless. Please assemble as a complete backpack kit ready for distribution to those in need. You will need to buy a backpack and fill it with items. All items should be brand new and adult sizes. Here’s what you need to buy and assemble. One per set per person. It’s easy to do two, three or more backpacks at a time. Make it a fun, meaningful holiday family activity. Go shopping:
- 1 new, good quality, large backpack – neutral colors preferred
- 1 new blanket
- 1 new knit scarf – neutral colors preferred
- 1 new warm hat/beanie – adult size, neutral colors preferred
- 1 pair of new warm gloves – adult size, neutral colors preferred
- 1 pair of new warm socks – adult size, sports style
- 1 new, reusable (not disposable) rain poncho – adult size
- 1 new can opener – no knives
- 1 Safeway gift card – $25 per card
- 1+ new face mask covering – adult size
- 1 new bottle of hand sanitizer – portable size, no pump
DROP OFF assembled backpacks at the Marin City Rec Center (630 Drake Ave, Marin City), Monday – Friday Dec. 5th – 16th between 3pm-7pm. You can also drop your completed backpacks at CREEKSIDE on or before December 15th. We will collect packs at Creekside again and delivery to Paul Austin and his PLAY MARIN volunteers, or you can drop off directly.
